New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) is the primary provider of blood products and services in New Zealand. Its mission is to save lives through the collection, processing, testing, and distribution of blood and blood products. They operate 13 blood donor centers across the country and collect over 120,000 blood donations every year.
NZBS was delivering face to face, paper-based training for their existing donor relations management system (DRM). They found that this method of training was time consuming and depended on the availability of trainers.
With the implementation of a new DRM to be used across the entire business, NZBS were looking for a more efficient learning solution to train their staff in the new IT system. The solution needed to include a wide range of functionality of the system and cater for a number of different roles, from the collections team to senior managers. NZBS were also looking for a comms piece to promote the new system to their staff and increase buy-in.
First we created an animated introduction to DRM365 to communicate the reasons for the new system and the positive impacts it will have on donor relations.
To enable targeted systems training for each role and the specific functions that they need to carry out in DRM365, we took a modularised approach. We designed modules that use a ‘see-do’ method, with task-based videos followed by crafted scenarios. Completion of a combination of modules results in a badge that lets the DRM365 admin team know which modules have been completed and in turn which level of access the user has achieved. Alongside these modules, we developed quick reference guides for just-in-time learning.
We implemented the learning solution on the NZBS LMS so that when staff login they are presented with the relevant modules and quick reference guides based on their role.
NZBS now have a learning solution for their new IT system that:
