Kāinga Ora

Construction & Innovation Induction

About our Client

Kāinga Ora is a New Zealand government agency responsible for building, managing, and providing affordable housing for people in need. Kāinga Ora works with contractors, developers, and builders to construct high-quality, sustainable homes that meet the needs of tenants and contribute to the overall well-being of communities.

Their Brief

On joining Kāinga Ora’s Construction and Innovation (C&I) group, new starters to the Construction Team are introduced to C&I processes, policies and systems that are fundamental to their roles. Although new starters are typically experienced in delivering construction projects, they lack familiarity with the specific nature of construction projects at Kāinga Ora.

Kāinga Ora were seeking a learning solution for new team members to give them a consistent and solid foundational knowledge of the way things are done across Kāinga Ora construction projects so they can hit the ground running. They needed to be able to follow Kāinga Ora processes and utilise the available tools when and where appropriate.

Our Role

We collaborated closely with the subject matter experts to pull out the key processes, documents and tools that would be directly relevant to the new team members.

To engage the new starters, our solution started with a short, snappy animation highlighting some achievements of the C&I team.

The next part of the learning solution took the new team members on a project journey to explore the processes, documents and tools that they will need.

Their Results

By implementing their Construction & Innovation Induction:

  • new Kāinga Ora team members are able to start competently and confidently in their role
  • new C&I team members receive a consistently high standard of induction supporting well run construction projects
  • Kāinga Ora C&I group now save time on inducting new starters by using digital on demand induction rather than in person training.
